About
I’m Paolo Carta, a freelance Kubernetes consultant and DevOps engineer. I’ve spent the past several years helping engineering teams move faster without breaking things — designing container infrastructure, automating delivery pipelines, and building the internal tooling that removes toil from developers’ daily lives.
I work with startups scaling their first production Kubernetes clusters, and with larger organisations untangling years of manual, fragile infrastructure. In both cases, the goal is the same: reliable systems that teams understand and trust.
Background
Before going independent, I worked across backend engineering and infrastructure roles, which means I can have honest conversations with both the application developers and the platform teams. I’m comfortable reading Go, YAML, shell scripts, writing Terraform modules, and debugging production incidents.
Technical focus areas
- Kubernetes — EKS, GKE, and on-premises clusters
- GitOps — Argo CD, Flux
- CI/CD — GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins
- Infrastructure as Code — Terraform, Pulumi, Config Connector
- Observability — Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Jaeger, Datadog
- Security — RBAC, network policies, secrets management (Vault, External Secrets)
- Platform engineering — Backstage, internal developer portals
How I work
I take on a small number of clients at a time so I can be genuinely useful — not just a body filling a ticket queue. Engagements typically start with a short discovery phase to understand your infrastructure, your team’s pain points, and where you actually need help. From there we agree on a scope and work iteratively.
